Hey there! You're using an out-of-date browser, so this site probably looks pretty funny. Upgrade your browser for the full experience.

The Center for Nonprofit Excellence does it all. From classes to consulting, they are truly the heartbeat of the nonprofit community here in Louisville. We partnered with them to craft a website that reflected their vibrant, bold personality, as well as met their integrated technical needs.

Concept

We started by creating a voice and tone guide to help CNPE not only communicate consistently, but help use their brand language to position them as welcoming collaborators and conveners. The client took our guide and ran with it. After a copy refresh, our ‘big idea’ for the site became clear: big, bold headlines.

These snippets described the client’s personality and mission more than any visual could. We decided to bring this copy to center stage through the use of large type and bold color.

The second portion of our concept was movement.

We wanted to incorporate design elements that reflected CNPE’s pyramid shaped logo and were clear indicators of which direction the user should take.

We strategically applied the red from our color palette as another way to visually guide the user. Angular cuts were applied to some of the images to provide visual interest and mimic the diagonals of the other graphic elements. Another tactic was the use subtle movement in our rollover states to carry the concept of movement through to the user interaction.

Using custom plugins for rich, fast user experiences

From a technical perspective, our goal was to create a WordPress site that integrated heavily with CNPE’s Salesforce account (their primary repository for member and organization data, also known as a CRM). We implemented a WordPress custom plugin which handles functionality like Salesforce integration and credit card payments. The plugin also creates an API layer which allowed us to develop rich, fast front-end user experiences for things like class registration and membership renewals. The WordPress plugin also automatically imports CNPE class events from Salesforce into the Events Calendar plugin from Modern Tribe. It’s pretty nifty!

How We Work Together

“At CNPE we couldn’t be more proud of the work we’ve done with VIA and can’t wait to see what we team up to create in the future. We had a tremendously ambitious timeline for our project — only 90 days! VIA embraced this challenge and exceeded our expectations by pushing us creatively to generate a fresh, new website that is as bold as our vision.”
